3-Ingredient Double Chocolate Mousse
What it is
A no-cook chocolate mousse made with coconut cream instead of heavy cream and eggs. The thick part of chilled coconut cream whips up light and airy, and cocoa powder and a little sweetener turn it into a rich, chocolatey dessert. Because there is no dairy, no eggs and no added sugar if you use a sugar-free sweetener, it suits low-carb, keto, dairy-free and egg-free diets.
At a glance
- Serves: 8, according to Karina’s recipe card

Why it stands out
- Three ingredients. No melting chocolate, no separating eggs, no gelatin. It is about as simple as a mousse can be.
- No raw eggs. Classic mousse relies on raw egg whites; this one does not, which makes it a good choice when serving children or anyone who avoids raw eggs.
- Dinner-party ready. Spooned into small glasses with a few chocolate shavings, it looks far more effort than it is.
Tips
- Full-fat only. Light coconut milk will not whip. Look for full-fat coconut cream, or full-fat coconut milk with a high fat content.
- Don’t shake the can. After chilling, the thick cream sits on top and the watery liquid below. Scoop off the solid cream and keep the liquid for smoothies or curries.
- Chill your bowl and beaters too; cold equipment helps the cream whip up fluffier.
- Sift the cocoa. It folds in smoothly with no little lumps of dry powder.
- Taste and adjust. Cocoa brands vary in bitterness, so add sweetener a little at a time.
- Storage: covered in the fridge it keeps for 2 to 3 days. It firms up as it chills, so give it a quick stir before serving.
