Another version worth trying

Annie’s version also wraps each croissant in foil and bakes it, with a three-ingredient honey mustard sauce. She calls it one of the easiest meals she makes, and it bakes while you throw together a quick salad.

  • Makes: 4 sandwiches
  • Time: about 30 minutes
  • You’ll need: croissants, Dijon mustard, ham, honey, onion powder, Swiss cheese

Good to know

  • Why foil? Wrapping each sandwich in foil steams the inside so the cheese melts all the way through, while the croissant stays soft.
  • Make ahead. Assemble and wrap the sandwiches ahead of time and keep them in the fridge, or freeze them for later. Frozen sandwiches need longer in the oven.
  • Swaps. Turkey instead of ham, or provolone or Gruyère instead of Swiss, all work.
  • For a crowd. Line them up on a big sheet pan and serve them straight from the foil.
