This is a perfect side dish: rich, creamy sweet potatoes loaded with lots of marshmallows and pecans. Yum!
This creamy candied pecan sweet potato casserole crockpot recipe sounds and looks out of this world. It is so sweet and salty, with such a creamy filling, that some say it is dessert and not a traditional side dish.
The truth is, it really doesn’t matter whether you call it dessert or a side dish. If you try this recipe, you will never make another sweet potato casserole!

Creamy Candied Pecan Sweet Potato Casserole at a glance
- Size: a big batch, made for a holiday crowd
- You’ll need: brown sugar, butter, eggs, flour, milk or heavy cream, mini marshmallows, pecans, salt, sweet potatoes, vanilla, water

Why it stands out
Tiffany’s version has two toppings in one: a buttery brown sugar and pecan crumble plus a layer of mini marshmallows, so you get crunch and gooey sweetness in the same spoonful. It makes a big batch, so it suits a holiday table. If you want the oven free on Thanksgiving Day, the two slow cooker versions below do the same job hands-off.

Tips for slow cooker sweet potatoes
- Cut the potatoes the same size so they all turn tender at the same time.
- Add the marshmallows at the end. They melt into nothing if they cook for hours.
- Want a toasted top? Spoon the casserole into a baking dish and put it under the broiler for a minute or two. Watch it closely, because marshmallows burn fast.
- Leftovers keep 3 to 4 days in the fridge, covered.
