20-Minute One-Pot Chicken Bacon Alfredo Pasta

At a glance

  • Time: about 20 minutes
  • You’ll need: chicken broth, cooked bacon, cooked chicken, cream, fettuccine, garlic, Parmesan cheese, parsley, salt and pepper

Why it works

The pasta cooks right in the broth and cream, so the starch from the pasta thickens the sauce and there is only one pot to wash. Because the chicken and bacon are already cooked, it is a great way to use up leftovers or a rotisserie chicken.

Good to know

  • Stir often. Pasta cooked in a small amount of liquid likes to stick to the bottom of the pot.
  • Grate your own Parmesan. Freshly grated cheese melts smoothly. Pre-grated cheese can make the sauce grainy.
  • Too thick or too thin? A splash of broth loosens a thick sauce. A minute or two of resting off the heat thickens a thin one.
  • Add a vegetable. Peas, spinach or broccoli are easy additions to a creamy pasta.
  • Leftovers. Alfredo sauce thickens in the fridge. Add a splash of milk or broth when you reheat, and eat within 3 days.
